NEWS FROM JANUARY 2017
The new year has started out busy, and all of us at Ella’s Closet are looking forward to what 2017 will bring!
This month we held the very popular Cooking Matters classes through Glades Initiative with instructors Sister Laura and Chef Paul. We condensed the classes to two days a week for three weeks and were able to include some of the patrons of the Lighthouse Café making a total of 17 participants. They learn such great skills in this class such as comparative shopping to get the best product for their money and how to make their meals healthy. At the end of each class, they are given a bag of fresh ingredients so they can prepare the meal again at home for their families. We will start up a new Cooking Matters class in February which will be given by Ms. Calsetta. I love to see how excited and involved the participants get in this class.
Classes scheduled for February include the weekly Bible Study and Healthy Relationships along with CPR with the PB County Fire Rescue. We are adding a new class to our schedule on Monday. It will be a sewing class. The ladies will begin with basic sewing and hope to eventually progress to more advanced items. We already have a request for little girls tutus that can be sold online. Thankfully we have had some sewing machines donated and are looking for donations of thread, patterns, material and sewing supplies. This class will be limited to 4 in a class so that each mom can get the one on one help. Be looking for pictures on our Facebook, Instagram and in next month’s newsletter.

Happy New Year!
Ella’s Closet was buzzing with excitement as the Christmas holiday drew closer. All of our little angels were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa and the annual Christmas party. On December 21, Santa and Mrs. Claus (David & Gaye Key – Ella’s & Raelynn’s grandparents) arrived at the closet by way of Palm Beach County Fire Engine #73 with loud sirens and flashing lights to the delight of the moms and children alike. The children were all given gifts that had been purchased through our Ella’s Angels Tree project. We were fortunate enough to have received extra toys through an anonymous donor and were able to bless the children with a little extra. Our wonderful Bible study volunteer, Jan Loesch, read the Christmas story and then refreshments were served. A good time was had by all! Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success!
Back in September WPTV news anchor Roxanne Stein, along with some of our moms, participated in one of our jewelry making classes. She brought out the camera crew, and the piece was aired on December 28. We want to encourage our moms to feel empowered with finding their hidden talents while making a product that people would like to purchase. So far this has been very successful with the last necklaces selling out very quickly. You can check out the news article at the following link – http://www.wptv.com/news/region-the-glades/belle-glade/belle-glade-program-teaches-women-creative-skills
Also, this month, Tandra and I along with others participated in an Infant/Child CPR class given by Pam Ellison with “Saving Lives for Ella.” We learned a lot and would like to encourage others to take a CPR class if you haven’t already done so. You could make a difference in someone’s life. Pam doesn’t charge for these classes, and you can find all the information on the Facebook page “Saving Lives for Ella.”
Ella’s Closet reached out to the community when there were 50+ people evicted from their apartments due to the building being condemned. We provided toiletry items, basic necessities, and food for the little ones. We also partnered with the Lighthouse Café by cooking and delivering meals.
Classes scheduled for January include the weekly Bible Study and Healthy Relationships along with CPR with the PB County Fire Rescue. We are excited to announce that Glades Initiative will be back with their very popular Cooking Matters class. This will be held twice a week for six weeks with the exact dates posted on our website calendar.
Don’t forget you can always support Ella’s Closet when you make a purchase on www.CLOTHED4APURPOSE.com (find Ella’s Closet under The Causes We Love) and www.smile.amazon.com (listed as The Light House Café Ministries). Thanks to everyone who supported us in 2016.
All of us at Ella’s Closet want to wish all of you a very blessed 2017!

Dear Friends,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with good food and special memories with loved ones. We made sure our moms had everything they needed, so they had a good holiday as well! Once again YM Unite provided turkeys along with others who donated the items to put together our Thanksgiving baskets. Our moms were very grateful and excited. Thanks to all who donated.
We have continued to support the orphanage in Haiti. Ella’s Closet has been blessed with so many clothes that we feel we should “pay it forward” to those that need it more. This will be something we would like to continue once or twice a year.
Some of you participated in our Ella’s Angels last year and had been asking if we will be doing it again. We definitely are! This year we are just going to change it up a bit. Last year, we included all registered parents and all of their children. This year we have been fortunate enough to receive a lot of donations of new toys and shoes; we chose to save them for Christmas!
Therefore, for this year’s Ella’s Closet Angel Tree, we will only be including the children of the parents that are actively participating in the classes on a continuous basis. Instead of an actual “tree,” we will be doing it all online using Sign-Up Genius. You may sign-up to be an angel for a child listed by clicking on this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4caead28a5fe3-ellas
All items will be due by Monday, December 19. You can also look for and share the Sign-Up Genius for Ella’s Closet Angel’s Tree link on our website and Facebook pages.
Classes are still continuing with Youth Services of Palm Beach County on Mondays, Bible Study on Wednesdays and Healthy Relationships on every other Thursday. In January we are planning to start HIV Prevention, Infant/Child CPR, and Car Seat Safety. We will be having a car seat drive in the near future.
If you are in need of any gifts for Christmas, don’t forget to check out www.CLOTHED4APURPOSE.com for beautiful jewelry made by our moms as well as stylish clothing. Choose Ella’s Closet as a Cause We Love and a portion of your purchase will go to help replenish the closet and keep it running.
We hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and remember, “Jesus is the Reason for the Season”!
God Bless,
Debra Allen
